Undergraduate Research Opportunity (UROP)

Undergraduate Research Opportunity Programme (UROP) at INFORMM is a training model founded in 2019, designed to promote and cultivate research interest and research-oriented critical thinking among medical/biomedical/health sciences undergraduate students. The training is one of INFORMM’s strategies in encouraging undergraduate students to embark in postgraduate studies and prepare them for an innovative journey in research. The programme is also among other INFORMM’s action-contributions in supporting the two SDGs - SDG 3 Good Health & Well-being and SDG 4 Quality Education, inspired to ensure superior quality of postgraduate (MSc & PhD) students to support the desire for research innovations in medical/biomedical/health at USM and for Malaysia. The essentials of UROP include lectures on molecular biology - its relation to the mechanism of disease, and demos & hands-on practical on techniques in molecular biology - its utilization in fundamental research as well as disease diagnostics. The duration for UROP is about three to four weeks and currently, free-of-charge to USM undergraduates. Currently, UROP is only conducted at INFORMM Health Campus, Kelantan.
