Kelantan – The Cell Culture: 3D Spheroid & Transfection Workshop 2019 (Seminar & Hands-On) was held at INFORMM Kelantan on 31st July & 1st August 2019 led by Dr. Noor Fatmawati Mokhtar. The workshop was a part of INFORMM’s initiatives in promoting home-grown expertise, researches and research facilities. The speakers in this workshop were Dr. Noor Fatmawati Mokhtar (INFORMM USM), Dr. Norhayati Yusop (PPSG USM), Dr. Yvonne Tee Get Bee (PPSK USM) and Dr. Irene Liza Isaac (Apical Scientific Malaysia). Apical Scientific Sdn Bhd is one of the leading biomedical and life sciences industry brands in Malaysia and had been a generous sponsor of materials for the workshop.
The workshop was a combination of seminar and hands-on sessions. The seminar covered the introduction to good practice in cell culture, cell culture in biomedical research, experimental planning and validation, the magic of transfection and analysis of transfection efficiency. The hands-on sessions covering experimental set-up for 3D spheroid, culture development, transfection and assessments using the Inverted Microscope Fluorescence System (LEICA) loaned by HISTOCENTER Malaysia Sdn Bhd which have allowed participants to experience the techniques and apply them within their related research activities.
