Development and characterization of specific aptamers using Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi
Project Description
Typhoid fever is highly risk at area that having poor quality potable water, non-hygienic living conditions and improper sanitation systems. Blood culture is currently a standard procedure for diagnosis of typhoid fever, but it is time-consuming and takes several days for isolation and identification of causative organisms. In addition, reliability of Widal test (antibody–antigen based) is often questionable due to interference of other infections such as brucellosis, malaria, and hepatitis that mimics the enteric fever. Thus, early detection of S. Typhi from carriers is still a challenge, main bottleneck in combating food or water borne pathogenic outbreaks detection techniques.
