Field Trip to B. Braun Medical Industries Sdn. Bhd.
11th August 2022 - A field trip to B. Braun Medical Industries Sdn. Bhd., Bayan Lepas, Penang was organized and attended by six students of the MSc Mixed Mode programme, together with two accompanying lecturers, Dr Norsyahida Arifin and Dr Daruliza Kernain. B. Braun is a medical and pharmaceutical device company based in German, and the facility in Bayan Lepas is their first manufacturing site in Asia Pacific region which specializes in the production of medical devices and other health care solutions for applications such as anaesthesia, intensive care, cardiology and surgery, in addition to providing training services for clinics, physicians in private practices, and surgeons. The objective of this industrial visit was to provide students an insight into the industry environment, operations, and opportunities to engage with industry experts. The USM team was greeted by Dr Eng Hooi Sian, Ms Teresa Huan, and Ms Juanita Johari and toured around Aesculap Academy; an established B. Braun training center that hosts many hands-on surgery-related simulation workshops, academic seminars and training to doctors, nurses, and other hospital professionals. The team was also briefed on the work culture and benefits of working at B.Braun. All students were happy and pleased with the opportunity to engage with the company more closely, hoping that there would be opportunities to join the company in the future.
