Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) 2022 at INFORMM, USM Health Campus
18 September 2022 – The 2nd edition of Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) at INFORMM, USM Health Campus was successfully launched. The training model was founded in 2019, designed to promote and cultivate research interest and research-oriented critical thinking among medical/biomedical/health sciences undergraduate students. This year, all the 17 students’ participation were from the Biomedical Program, School of Health Sciences, USM Health Campus, Kelantan. The training is one of INFORMM’s strategies in encouraging undergraduate students to embark in postgraduate studies and prepare them for an innovative journey in research. The program is also among other INFORMM’s action-contributions in supporting the two SDGs - SDG 3 Good Health & Well-being and SDG 4 Quality Education, inspired to ensure superior quality of postgraduate (MSc & PhD) students to support the desire for research innovations in medical/biomedical/health at USM and for Malaysia. The essentials of UROP include lectures on molecular biology and its relation to the mechanism of disease, and hands-on practical on techniques in molecular biology and its utilization in fundamental research as well as disease diagnostics. The duration for UROP is about four to three weeks and currently, free-of-charge to USM undergraduates. This year’s edition, the training completed on the 13 October 2022 and each student was given certificate of participation.
