A First Step to Biomedical Research 2022

9th September 2022 – “A first step to biomedical research”, a scientific outreach programme was organized at INFORMM, USM Main Campus. The programme was attended by 22 students from different secondary and tertiary institutions (MRSM Gerik, MRSM Kuala Klawang, Kolej Mara Kulim, Straits International School, SMJK Heng Ee, Kolej Genius Pintar, Sekolah Menengah Sains Kepala Batas, INTI International College Penang, University of Nottingham Malaysia, and SMJK Jit Sin). The programme aimed to share with the participants some of the lab activities and how it’s like in a daily life of a biomedical research scientist. They were shown to hands-on in bioinformatics, histopathology microscopy for cancer diagnosis, rapid diagnostics assay, nanotechnology, and basic microbiology in our daily lives. It is hoped that the experiential learning activities will enable the participants to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the field of biomedical research, and potentially lead to them pursuing a career in biomedicine.
