Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential enrichment (SELEX) Technology Workshop series IV
27-29 June 2022 - After a two-year hiatus from face-to-face training due to the COVID-19 pandemic, INFORMM is now actively gearing-up technology transfer activities advocated under the Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE) niche area on diagnostic technologies. One of the highly anticipated activities was a 3-day Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential enrichment (SELEX) Technology Workshop series IV, successfully held from June 27-29, 2022. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the local scientific company, IMPACO Plt. who have been generous to provide PCR reagent to help make this workshop a successful event.
The 3-day workshop was a combination of seminars and hands-on sessions covering the overview of SELEX technology and aptamer technology. The speakers and topics include Dr Khairul Mohd Fadzli Mustaffa (INFORMM) and Dr Mohamad Zulkiflee Sabri (Universiti Kuala Lumpur, MICET, Melaka), both presented on SELEX technology and in-silico aptamer design respectively, and Mr Remy from Metrohm, Malaysia presented on introducing a range of biosensor that can be used on aptamer diagnostic platform. The integrated hands-on session covered all SELEX processes (selection, amplification, and characterization), allowing participants to experiment with the technology. Seven participants from various institutions (MARDI, IMR, and UniSZA) attended the workshop, and they all expressed great satisfaction and provided positive feedback.
