INFORMM Young Scientist Award 2021
30 May 2022 – Today marked the 3rd INFORMM Young Scientist Award (IYSA) 2021 (awardees year 2021) held virtually. The ceremony started with opening remark by IYSA 2022 facilitator, Dr Nik Yusnoraini Yusof followed with officiating speech by INFORMM Director, Associate Professor Dr Aziah Ismail. The highlight was the announcement of the winners; Dr Hussain Ahmad (PhD, Molecular Medicine, Vaccinology) and Dr Carol A/P K. Balakrishnan (MSc Molecular Medicine, Mixed Mode) (no applications for MSc research mode was received).
The honourees sincerely acknowledged the support of colleagues and supervisors for their success. Accordingly, Dr Carol thanked her supervisor, Professor Dr Gurjeet Kaur who she described as a guardian angel who continuously guided and motivated her throughout her study. Although Dr Hussain Ahmad was unable to join the ceremony due to unavoidable circumstances, his message was delivered by a friend, Ms Zamrina Baharudeen - expressing a heartfelt thanks to the supervisor, Professor Dr Rahmah Noordin who gave him strength and inspiration to challenge himself to perform his best.
IYSA was first introduced in 2019 (awardees year 2019) and is aimed to appreciate students who have shown outstanding research and academic excellence in the categories, MSc mixed mode, MSc research mode and Doctor of Philosophy. The awardees are selected based on their academic and research accomplishments by a panel of INFORMM experts and receive a certificate and cash prize. INFORMM congratulates all winners of INFORMM Young Scientist award 2021 and wishes them success in their future endeavours.
