APTCAD (Aptamer Computer Aided Design) Workshop by Biogenes Technologies in collaboration with INFORMM.

19 May 2022 – Biogenes Technologies conducted a hands-on workshop on Aptamer Computer Aided Design. The workshop was conducted by the research associates of Biogenes, Mr. Rishiruben Sivabalan (Digital Lead) and Ms. Teffanie Arputheraj. The participants include INFORMM’s lecturers, research officers, and postgraduate students. The workshop aims to provide hands-on training in aptamer design using APTCAD and further strengthen the understanding of aptamer design. The workshop was fruitful as the participates not only had the opportunity to design an aptamer but also were assisted through the troubleshooting and optimization stages. This workshop has also enabled researchers in INFORMM to further discuss possible research projects with Biogenes Technologies as we look to improve our industrial outreach via key strategic partnerships.

Biogenes Technologies is a Malaysia-based company that develop and commercialize technologies for a wide range of applications in the filed of molecular diagnostics and genomics. Biogenes ‘s platforms include printed nano-coated sensors for diagnostics, immobilization of DNA probes and aptamers and in-silico designing and validation of new aptamers. A recent success of Biogenes in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic was the development of aptamer-based molecular probes against the SARS-COV-2 virus incorporated onto aptasensor chips and portable hardware for mass COVID-19 screening. In addition, Biogenes has expanded its services by collaborating with universities and institutions, including INFORMM, for R&D and product commercialization.
