Dr. Oon awarded the Anugerah Ahli Akademik Harapan 2019

Our heartiest congratulations to Associate Professor Dr. Oon Chern Ein for being the recipient of the Anugerah Ahli Akademik Harapan 2019 at the Anugerah Akademik Negara Ke-13 (13th National Academic Awards). The award was presented by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed. Also present were Deputy Minister of Education, Mdm. Teo Nie Ching and Director General of Higher Education, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), Datin Paduka Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Tapsir. The national awards ceremony aims to recognise scholars in Malaysian higher education institutes who have significantly contributed to the transfer and development of knowledge at national and global levels.

Dr. Oon is a member of the Cancer Research Cluster in INFORMM and this latest award adds to the many recognitions she has received for her work on novel therapeutics in cancer. Dr. Oon’s current research focuses on the inhibition of sirtuin, a molecule that plays an important role in cancer, metabolic and nerodegenerative diseases.
