The 5th Annual INFORMM Colloquium 2019
The 5th Annual INFORMM Colloquium 2019 was held on the 25th of July 2019. The theme for this year’s colloquium was “SPEARHEADING RESEARCH”. The student colloquium was held at INFORMM Penang and Kelantan via teleconferencing and was open to all INFORMM graduate students in their 2nd year onwards. The day began with a talk by Mr. Lai Lip Soon, the R&D Manager from Agilent Technologies with his talk on “What the Industry Expects from Fresh Graduates?”. The students and lecturers alike were very engaged with the speaker as they were curious to know the standards set by industry for picking employees. After the break, the student’s presentation took place in both the auditorium and conference room 2 simultaneously. Each presenter was given 8 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes for question and answer session. Another talk was given after lunch by Dr Aisyah Saad Abdul Rahim on “How to do an effective scientific presentation?”. This session was extremely informative and provided the students with tips on how to improve their presentation slides and skills. After the remaining presentations were completed, the day ended with the closing ceremony. Lew Min Han and Lee Yeuan Ting walked away with the first place and runner up in PhD category, respectively while Cheng Wei Kang and Nurul Adila walked away with the first place and runner up in the MSc category, respectively. The colloquium provided the opportunity for students to communicate their research to a wider audience consisting of lecturers and students from INFORMM. The students were able to discuss ideas, get fruitful feedback and constructive criticism on their works from audience.
