SEMINAR & HANDS-ON COURSE@INFORMM – REAL-TIME PCR

Kubang Kerian - A Real-time PCR: Relative & Absolute Quantification workshop was held on the 26th – 27th June 2019. The purpose of the workshop was to expose the participants to an intensive theoretical and hands-on experience in nucleic acid analysis using real-time PCR instrument. The workshop’s main sponsor, NeoScience Sdn Bhd, loaned a real-time PCR instrument, AriaMx (Agilent) and some materials which helped to make this workshop a success. The 2-day workshop was designed in a way that participants were first given a series of lectures by Dr Noor Fatmawati Mokhtar (INFORMM), Ms Lydiana Ng (NeoScience Sdn. Bhd.) and Mr Mohd Hafiz Murtadha Noor Din (INFORMM), covering the overview, application and result in analysis of real-time PCR in scientific research, respectively.

Meanwhile, the integrated hands-on session allowed the participant to experience the PCR technique first hand through Hands-on 1: Generation of the standard-curve graph where the outcome from the hands-on was analysed during following hands-on session 2 and 3. Collectively, 16 participants attended this workshop, came from different institutions and expressed delight and positive feedbacks. Through the integrated learning methods, utilizing hands-on training to reinforce lecture materials, we hope every participant will be able to apply information learned into applications in their research.
