Real-Time PCR Course

Real-Time PCR: Hands-on preparation and data analysis was INFORMM’s second course, following the success of the first course on Cell Culture & Cell-based assay which was held on 27 – 28 August 2017 at INFORMM USM Health Campus, Kelantan. Altogether, eight participants registered for the course. As before, the course was delivered in two sections – lectures to establish a solid foundation on good sample preparations, types of detection system (Probe vs SYBR) and special highlights on several different applications of real-time PCR; and a hands-on laboratory session on RNA extraction from different sample types - cell line, fresh tissue and FFPE, and real-time reaction set-up and semi-quantitative data analysis. Dr Ian Ban Eng Zhuan (Matrioux (M) Sdn Bhd), Dr Noor Fatmawati Mokhtar (INFORMM) and Associate Prof Dr Maizan Mohamed (UMK) shared their experience on the first day of the course during the lectures. The hands-on session on the second day allowed participants to reinforce lecture materials and integrate learning methods through hands-on training techniques. At the end of the course, participants were quizzed in a light hearted manner to test their understanding of the training received.
