Delegates from Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU), Thailand

9th June 2016- INFORMM, Penang had the privilege to host eight students from the Faculty of Science, Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU), Thailand. This visit was part of a two week programme aimed at developing cultural understanding between Malaysian and Thai students in addition to gaining exposure to scientific research done in Universiti Sains Malaysia. This effort was coordinated by Dr. Leow Chiuan Herng who was appointed by the International Mobility & Career Centre (IMCC, USM) to introduce the core research clusters within the Institute.

After a brief introduction on INFORMM, the students were given a comprehensive laboratory tour to allow the students to gain insight into the exciting world of molecular research. It was then followed by a series of lectures which covered multiple topics including antibody generation for diagnostic platform, vaccine and immunology, cancer development, parasitology and other infectious dieases. The day ended with a closing speech by the deputy director of INFORMM, Prof.

Dr.Gurjeet Kaur. A token of appreciation was given to the Thai student representative on behalf of their program coordinators, Dr. Purim Jarujamrus and Dr. Nipawan Pongprom. Despite the short visit to INFORMM, this programme has successfully initiated effort to build new ties and co-operation between USM and UBU.
