The Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) was founded in 2003 by eleven pioneering researchers under the Medical Biotechnology cluster. Since then, INFORMM has grown into a premier research institute, recognized nationally and internationally for excellence in diagnostics, therapeutics, and translational research. In 2010, INFORMM was awarded the prestigious Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE) status by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia in the field of diagnostic solutions for infectious diseases, entering its second phase in 2015. This recognition highlights INFORMM’s strong track record in research, development, and commercialization, while enhancing its visibility and fostering collaborations worldwide.

INFORMM’s researchers have won numerous awards and regularly engage with leading institutions in the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Singapore, and Australia. With facilities at both the USM Health Campus and the Main Campus in Penang, INFORMM benefits from access to diverse expertise and resources, including Hospital USM. Current research themes focus on Diagnostics and Therapy & Novel Therapeutics, with an emphasis on translational outcomes that benefit society. INFORMM continues to welcome students, collaborators, and partners, striving to remain a sustainable, innovative institute with a strong international presence in molecular medicine.
