Penang, 3-4 October 2024 — The Molecular Diagnostics and Biomarker Discovery (MDBD) 2024 Conference, hosted by the Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), concluded successfully on 3–4 October 2024 at the INFORMM Auditorium in Penang. The seventh edition of this international conference brought together leading scientists, clinicians, industry partners, and policymakers to advance the frontiers of medical health technology.
With the theme “Advancing Medical Health Technology”, MDBD 2024 featured keynote and plenary lectures from distinguished experts, including Professor Heng‑Phon Too, Professor Nor Azah Yusof, Professor Mohd Fairulnizal, Associate Professor Dr Aziah Ismail, Professor Mark Skidmore, and Professor Catherine Hor. Their talks highlighted cutting‑edge research in molecular diagnostics, biomarker discovery, and translational medicine, underscoring the importance of innovation in improving patient outcomes.
The two‑day hybrid event combined physical and virtual participation, enabling broad engagement across the Asia‑Pacific region. Researchers, graduate students, startups, and healthcare practitioners presented findings on topics ranging from cancer biomarkers and infectious disease diagnostics to novel assay development and digital health applications. Exhibitors and industry partners also showcased emerging technologies poised to transform clinical practice.

Since its inception in 2013, MDBD has grown into a flagship event in Penang, attracting international participation and reinforcing Malaysia’s role as a hub for biomedical innovation.
