INFORMM Visited Nur Jaya Medic
On November 22, 2023, the 6th cohort of MSc Mixed-mode students and several postgraduate research students from INFORMM visited Nur Jaya Medic, a medical device company specializing in disinfectant production. The visit was accompanied by lecturers Dr. Norsyahida Arifin and Dr. Eric Lai Ngit Shin, aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical industry applications. The delegation received a warm welcome from CEO Mr. Ramlan Ibrahim, who offered valuable insights into the company’s establishment and the placement of their disinfectant product, Cydal+ in the market. QA Manager Ms. Masitah Derahman shared her expertise on Quality Management Systems (QMS) and regulatory aspects, while Miss Nurhidayu Mohd Sobri guided the students through product introduction and manufacturing processes. This visit provided the students a firsthand experience of the challenges and innovations in the field. INFORMM expressed gratitude to Nur Jaya Medic for the opportunity and looks forward to nurturing future collaborations between academia and industry.

INFORMM Visited B.Braun Medical Industries Sdn. Bhd
On 30th November 2023, INFORMM once again organized a visit to B.Braun Medical Industries Sdn. Bhd as part of the MSc Molecuar Medicine mixed mode program activities. The delegates comprised eight students from the 6th cohort of the MSc Mixed mode program, four laboratory staff members, and two accompanying lecturers- Dr. Norsyahida Arifin and Dr. Lai Ngit Shin.As in previous years, the goal of this industrial visit was to introduce students to the industry’s environment, operational processes, and enable active engagement with industry experts. The delegates received a warm welcome from the senior management Ms. Teresa Huan, along with two other staff members. The attendees were given an extensive tour of the facility, briefed on the production of catheters and the unique history of B Braun, from the company’s establishment to its product evolution. The tour ended at 12:30pm with a commemorative group photo. The students appreciated the opportunity to interact closely with the company and expressed optimism for potential future collaborations.

"INFORMM Family Beach Party : A Day of Fun and Sun at Miami Beach"
USM Penang, 28 October 2023 – The Sustainability Squad and INFORMM Students Association, MOMED joined forces to throw an amazing family beach party at Miami Beach, Batu Ferringhi. The day was a non-stop whirlwind of excitement, with student groups and kids’ beach games, exhilarating swims in the sea, beach cleanup and a live guitar performance that had everyone grooving in the sun and sand. With 44 attendees in total, including 25 energetic students and staff with their families, it was an unforgettable celebration of togetherness that left everyone with memories to last a lifetime.

INFORMM's Lateral Flow and Biosensors Training/Workshop is now HRDF claimable
INFORMM Penang, 6 October 2023 – INFORMM hosted a highly informative and hands-on workshop on Lateral Flow Assay and Biosensor Technologies from October 3rd to October 5th, 2023. Most importantly, the workshop is INFORMM's first program to be HRDF claimable.
The event brought together a diverse group of participants from public universities, government agencies, and industries, all eager to expand their knowledge in this field. The workshop featured distinguished speakers, including Dr. Klaus Hochleitner from Cytiva, Germany, and Dr. Warrick Su from PICS. Corp, Taiwan, along with local experts from USM, i.e., Assoc Prof Dr. Aziah Ismail (INFORMM), Assoc Prof Asrulnizam (CEDEC), Dr. Hairul Hisham (School of Chemical Sciences) and Dr. Yazmin from School of Biological Sciences. The workshop's comprehensive agenda covered topics ranging from optical fiber sensing to electrochemical sensors and the development of rapid assays, offering attendees a holistic understanding of the evolving landscape of diagnostic technologies and their vital applications.
Additionally, the regulatory aspects of diagnostic products and the significance of patenting innovations were also highlighted by the representatives from the Malaysia Medical Device Authority (MDA) and Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO). The highlight of the workshop was participants had the opportunity to engage in hands-on sessions, refining their skills in gold synthesis, antibody conjugation, the preparation of lateral flow assays, and fundamental microfluidic assay techniques alongside basic electrochemical analysis. This workshop was a significant success, fostering knowledge exchange, networking, and practical learning within the field of biosensor technologies. INFORMM's next program to be HRDF claimable will be the SELEX Technology Aptamer Selection Workshop (Series IV) which will be held on 16 - 18 Oct 2023.
Academic Session 2023/2024
We warmly welcome the seventh cohort of MSc mixed mode students to the INFORMM family. This year, eleven students have joined this program, with nine enrolled full-time and two as part-time students.
From 11th to 13th October 2023, we hosted an orientation session in Conference Room 1 and via teleconferencing to welcome and introduce the students to the curriculum, facilities, and resources, while also offering students opportunities to connect with their peers and faculty members. Our Director, Associate Professor Dr. Aziah Ismail opened the session with a warm welcome speech, followed by Dr Norsyahida who presented an overview of the program. This was followed by an introduction session with INFORMM’s top management and course coordinators, a sharing session with MOMED and senior students, and a brief tour around the INFORMM facility.
INFORMM also organized a 2-day ‘back-to-basics’ session, featuring short lectures on basic molecular topics, laboratory safety and administrative procedures conducted by lecturers, administrative and laboratory staff. We wish our students the utmost success in their academic journey with INFORMM
